Quiltblocktober / Hextober Week One

The first week of the sewalong is finished and it’s been so much fun!

So far I’ve been successful in my extra challenge of using ONLY the scrap bin. I can’t touch the yardage cabinets for any part of this (even the themed centers!).

I will admit that there have been a couple of days where I’ve had to spend thirty minutes or so digging around to see if I could find something to fit the theme (mushrooms were the toughest).

It’s nice to see all the blocks together like this.

Hexies have been coming along too!

I’ve only managed one a day so far, but I did just wrap up a large project that means I should be able to baste a few more in the coming weeks.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of a hexie.

I’m not letting myself use the same fabrics for these as I used in the center of the Economy Blocks. I’ve also been only searching for these pieces in my smalls bucket. That hasn’t been complicated…but messy. The bucket is already overflowing and I usually just need to dump it out on the floor to search.

Why does it always seem fuller when I try to shove all the pieces back in?

(I’ll be showing off my smalls bucket in an upcoming post on a practice I do in my studio called ‘Bucket projects’.)
